Another positive aspect to be pointed out is that LED backlighting feature will eliminate the mercury hazard in the product, mulch to the appreciation of the environmentalists.

As for the disadvantages, the main concern is the cost escalation. The LCD/LED television will be the most expensive among the flat panel models. Those who will not compromise on the quality of performance notwithstanding the cost factor will definitely choose the LCD with LED backlighting. But then, a large segment of LCD enthusiasts may be deprived of the new version because they cannot afford to own the product. Another worrisome aspect is the possible increase in energy consumption due to the local dimming feature of the new version. This single factor may kill the market fortunes built up by the conventional LCD television.
